What is meiosis?
Somatic cells body cells make up most of your body tissues and organs.
Gametes sex cells ova or egg in the female and spermatozoa or sperm in the male.
Homologous Chromosomes two chromosomes, one from the mother, one from the father that have the same lenght and general appearance. With copies of the same genes, although the two copies may differ.
Autosomes chromosomes that contain genes for charcteristics not directly related to the sex of the organism.
Chromosomes 122 in humans
Sex Chromosomes directly control the development of sexual characteristics. Females have 2 X chromosomes and males have an X and Y chromosome. The 23rd chromosome in humans.
X chromosome contains more genes than the Y because it is larger. Not all these genes relate to sexual characteristics (example: contains the gene to produce B
cells which are a type of white blood cell)
Sexual Reproduction fusion of two gametes that results in offspring that are a genetic mixture of both parents.
Fertilization Fusion of an egg and sperm cell.
Diploid a cell with two copies of chromosome, one from the mother, one from the father. (2n) In humans, a cell with 46 chromosomes
Haploid a cell that has only one copy of a chromosome. Each gamete has 22 autosomes and 1 sex chromosome. (n) Meiosis form of nuclear division that divides a diploid cell into a haploid cell.

Homologous Chromosomes
On each of the craftsticks, draw 5 alleles of different sizes on the sticks. Each allele needs to be in the same location and the same size on the sticks.
Then assign a letter to each gene, they can capitol or lower case.
