Heart
Mr. Mettler
Aorta

Largest artery in the body, originates from
the left ventricle of the heart and
distributes oxygenated blood all parts of
the body through the systemic circulation
Heart
Aortic Valve

Is one of the valves of the heart, it is
between the left ventricle and the aorta
Heart
Atrium

Chamber that blood enters in and then is
pushed out of the organ
Heart
Pulmonary Veins

Large blood vessels that carry oxygenated
blood from the lungs to the left atrium of
the heart.
Pulmonary Valve

Lies between the right ventricle and the
pulmonary artery, it opens during ventricle
systole when the pressure in the right
ventricle rises above the pressure in the
pulmonary artery, then closes when the right
ventricle pressure falls rapidly.
Pulmonary Artery

One of the two vessels which are formed as
terminal branches of the pulmonary trunk
and transport un-aerated blood to the lungs.
The two pulmonary arteries differ in length
and anatomy. The right pulmonary artery is
the longer of the two.
Heart
Inferior Vena Cava

Large vein that carries de-oxygenated
blood from the lower half of the body
into the right atrium of the heart
Superior Vena Cava

Vein that carries deoxygenated blood
from the upper half of the body to the
hearts right atrium
Heart
Tricuspid Valve

Valve between the right atrium and the
right ventricle.
Heart
Ventricle

One of two large chambers in the heart
that collects blood from the atrium and
sends it to the lungs and body
