Fadel Gad most recently served as Executive Producer for public television specials on Egyptian archaeology. Originally from Memphis, the first capital of Egypt, Fadel Gad received his Masters in Archaeology, Ancient Egyptology, and Islamic Art at Cairo University. He served as an archaeologist of Antiquities for Egypt. His field experience includes excavations in Fostat, Saqqara, Cellia, and the Monastery of Abo Henes. His comprehensive knowledge of ancient Egypt has enabled him to fill lecture halls, where he frequently lectures on Egyptian mythology and the ancient Egyptian concept of gods and goddesses. Born in Egypt, Dr. Hawass studied archaeology in Egypt and the United States, earning his Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Pennsylvania. He is the author of several books, including Silent Images: Women in Pharaonic Egypt, The Secrets of the Sphinx and The Valley of the Golden Mummies. In 2000, Dr. Hawass received the Distinguished Scholar award from the Association of Egyptian American Scholars and was one of 30 international figures to receive the Golden Plate Award from the American Academy of Achievement. He is also a National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Lecturer. Egypt The Royal Tour October 27-November 08 TOUR ITINERARY: Morning visit to the temple of Isis on Philae Island. This temple is one of the key sights along the Nile & was dedicated to the Mother Goddess Isis who gave birth to Horus on this island. Visit the unfinished obelisk & the granite quarries where the Ancient Egyptians cut stones for their statues & obelisks. At noontime, check in to the Nile Cruise, our floating home for the next four days. Overnight in Aswan Nile Cruise (B, L, D) DAY 2 –CAIRO Arrive in Cairo & transfer to the hotel. Welcome dinner. After lunch, horse buggies will roll you through the ancient city of Edfu to the temple of Horus & his consort Hathor. This temple was dedicated for the reunion of the gods & goddesses. Overnight in Esna Nile Cruise (B, L, D) DAY 3 – (CAIRO Spend the day on the Giza Plateau visiting the Great Pyramid, the Great Sphinx, the Solar Boat, & the new excavation of Dr. Zahi Hawass. Mena House Hotel DAY 9 – NILE CRUISE Morning sail to Luxor. Afternoon visit the temple of Karnak & the temple of Luxor, dedicated to god Amen & goddess Mut. Overnight at Luxor Nile Cruise (B, L, D) DAY 4 – CAIRO Drive into the countryside to visit the Pyramids of Dahshur: The Red Pyramid & the Bent Pyramid of Pharaoh Senefro, Khufu’s father. After lunch, at Saqqara Palm Club, visit the Step Pyramid in Saqqara Mena House Hotel DAY 10 – NILE CRUISE In the early morning, check out of the Nile Cruise. Morning drive to the north of Luxor through the exquisite, lush green countryside, to the majestic city of Abydos to visit the Temple of Osiris. Picnic en route. Returning from Abydos, stop at Dendarah to visit the Temple of Hathour, goddess of love, motherhood & music. View the collection of the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom, & the famous collection of King Tutankhamen. Lunch in the Old City at Nagib Mahfouz Restaurant. Visit the 16th century Street of the Tentmakers & the southern section of the 10th century Fatimid city with its medieval houses, inns, marketplaces, & Al-Azhar (the oldest continuously functioning university in the world). Visit Khan elKhalili, the most famous of Cairo Market Mena House Hotel DAY 6 – CAIRO/ASWAN Morning flight to Abu Simbel to visit the colossal rock-cut temple of Ramses II & the exquisite temple he built for his wife, Nefertari In the afternoon, sail by feluccas to the Elephantine Island, the home of God Khnum (one of the creator gods & the symbol of the first levels of Egyptian initiations) Visit the excavations & the German Institute Open Air Museum Cataract Hotel (B, D) www.sofitel.com DAY 7 –ASWAN/NILE CRUISE DAY 11 – LUXOR/ CAIRO Drive to the West Bank of Luxor City. Visit the Valley of the Kings, containing the exquisite tombs of the New Kingdom Pharaohs, the Valley of the Queens, & the Valley of the Nobles. By special permission from the Egyptian Antiquities Organization, visit several tombs that are not open to the general public. In the afternoon, lunch at the historic courtyard of the venerable Sheikh Ali Restaurant, watering hole of all renowned Egyptologists, including Howard Carter. Following lunch, we visit the great mortuary temples of Hatshepsut, Ramses II, & Ramses III, as well as the ancient village of Dier el Medina with its extraordinary tombs of the ordinary workers who built the temples. Final payment will be due 60 days prior the departure dates from the USA. It is the responsibility of the traveler (or his agent) to determine that final payment reaches the Tour Operator on time. On bookings made within 60 days of departure date, full and final payment will be due immediately upon booking. No booking will be considered until final deposit is received by the Tour Operator. Cancellation and Refunds Cancellations must be received by the Tour Operator in writing within 60 days of travel date. Cancellations received more than 60 days prior to departure will have a penalty of $200 per person: those received between 46 and 31 days will have a penalty of 50% per person; those received between 30 and 15 days will have a penalty of 75% per person. Cancellations received 14 days or less before departure or “no shows” will receive no refund. No refund will be made for transfers, city tours or any other services (including meals, accommodations or transportation) voluntarily not taken.
