Enjoy quick snacks on this cute little heart shaped
mug rug. Great for at home and at the office!
Piecing the Top:
Step 1 ~
Randomly arrange the squares in (4) rows of 7 squares,
(1) row of 5 squares, and (1) row of 3 squares.
Sew the rows, pressing the seam allowances of each
row in the same direction, and the row next to it in the
opposite direction. Then sew the rows together.
Step 2 ~
Clip the seam allowances on each side of each
intersecting seam and press the seams open to
help it all lay a little flatter for your mug rug.

Step 3 ~
Iron Fusible web to the back side of the 4 inch square of red fabric. Using the Go! Heart Die
#55029 (or Template A on the last page) cut one medium 3 inch heart shape from this fabric.
Refer to the picture and fuse the red heart to the pieced top just right of center, and with the top
of the red heart just below the top of the second row of squares. Machine blanket stitch around
the edges of the red heart.
Step 4 ~
Use a large Heart shape like a Whitman's Sampler candy
box (or make one with Template B on the last page).
Center it over the little quilt top and trace around it to mark
the overall heart shape, and cut out on the line.
Layering and Quilting:
Step 5 ~
Layer the pieced heart shaped top, right sides together over
the backing fabric square. Layer the batting square
underneath both.
Sew all around the outside edge of the heart shape with a scant quarter inch seam allowance,
leaving about a two inch opening for turning.
Trim the batting and backing to match the heart shaped seam allowance, clip at the outer point
and at the inside point of the heart, and turn right side out. Make sure the entire seam is completely turned out, press (tucking in the seam allowance at the opening), and top stitch all
around the outside edge of the heart about a ¼ inch from the edge.
Lightly quilt your mug rug.
It makes a great
candle mat too!
Enjoy!
