Ventricular and supra-ventricular tachycardias b. Bradyrythmias c. Pacemaker syndromes Understand the principles of external and internal cardiac pacing Understand the principles of cardiac energetics, metabolism, conduction and contraction/contractility Develop the following technical skills: a. Advanced cardiac life support b. Elective cardioversion COMMUNICATOR: Act as a consultant for common cardiac conditions including acute coronary Revised: March 12, 2010 syndromes and arrhythmias Develop and communicate a diagnostic and therapeutic plan Help patients understand their perioperative cardiac risks Work with the cardiology consultant to make sure that the consult patient care work flows smoothly and with clear understanding of the patient issues COLLABORATOR: Work effectively with various cardiac subspecialties (electrophysiology, echocardiography and angiographers) Effectively triage patients with cardiac surgeons MANAGER: Understand the operation of the cardiac triage program Learn how to triage patients who require advanced cardiac care Ensure appropriate follow up of patient issues arising from the consults HEALTH ADVOCATE: Help patients to understand the impact of their lifestyle on their cardiac issues Help consulting staff understand the implications of any treatment strategies SCHOLAR: Critically review the current cardiac risk assessment literature Be able to contribute to the education of the other members within the consult team Develop an understanding of evidence based medicine by attending defined lectures of epidemiology and principles of evidence based medicine at academic half day PROFESSIONAL: Deliver the highest quality of care with integrity, honesty and compassion Demonstrate appropriate respect for the opinion of patients and team Revised: March 12, 2010 members in the provision of cardiac assessments Revised: March 12, 2010
