RAILWAY FACILITIES Aragon’s anchor at the heart of the European Transport System Core Network Corridors Aragon’s anchor at the heart of the European Transport System FINAL Remarks • PLAZA’s success is due to: - Its geographical location in the centre of the northeast quadrant where over 80% of GDP concentrates - Its connectivity: road and air - Land availability • But an initial success, because to its full operation, PLAZA requires: - a rail connection to Valencia (short term) - a way out to Europe through the Central Pyrenees (medium term) Aragon’s anchor at the heart of the European Transport System FINAL Remarks • The Core Network Corridors planned sample: - Extensive coastlines poorly connected to corridors - A dense Central Network, being reduce as we approached peripheral areas • More precisely, the connection between the Iberian Peninsula and France: - Runs along the two coastal corridors through the Pyrenees - Pass through densely populated areas with a large number of passenger services. This hinders freight flows as they are mixed passenger-freight corridors - Absence of a dense network in Central France Aragon’s anchor at the heart of the European Transport System FINAL Remarks • The absence of periphery-to periphery connections results on nonredundant routes and cause a lower reliability in the supply chain as a whole. This routes are less attractive to logistics operators than other areas with a dense network • South Europe Ports will remain weighted against North Ports. The imbalance will not dim with the planned network Aragon’s anchor at the heart of the European Transport System Thank you for your attention!
