The Department of Environmental Science & Policy at Plymouth State University
(http://www.plymouth.edu/esp/) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of
Environmental Science beginning August 2014. Plymouth State University, located in the scenic heart of
the Lakes and White Mountain Region of New Hampshire, is a coeducational, residential university with
an enrollment of approximately 4,300 undergraduate students and 2,300 graduate students. The
department consists of four full-time faculty and six faculty with joint appointments in the Center for the
Environment (http://www.plymouth.edu/cfe/) and is located in PSU’s Boyd Science Center. This CFEaffiliated position offers the opportunity for enhanced research collaboration with a diverse group of
scientists having complementary research interests from other departments, agencies and NGOs.
Collaborations with state agencies, NGOs, and federally funded projects (such as Hubbard Brook LTER)
create a stimulating atmosphere for research and scholarship for faculty and students at PSU. We are
seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic individual who is interested in teaching excellence, research involving
students, and collaboration with other faculty.
Duties & Responsibilities: The new faculty member will teach courses in Environmental Science at the
introductory and advanced level for majors, including courses in their specific discipline, and possible
courses for non-majors in our General Education program, advise undergraduate students, participate in
service-learning activities internal and external to the campus, contribute to program development, and
engage in scholarly and research activities. The individual will also be expected to seek research funds,
to conduct collaborative research with students, and participate in other activities related to a university
department. Funded research can reduce teaching load.
Minimum Qualifications:




Ph.D. in environmental science or related field, preferably in an area of ecosystem science,
sustainable systems, or related field - required by August 2014
Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching
Ability to conduct research involving students
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Additional Desirable Qualifications:





Undergraduate teaching experience
Grantsmanship potential/experience
Interest to advise and teach students in our M.S. in Environmental Science & Policy Program in
collaboration with the Center For The Environment (CFE)
Experience/Interest in online instructional technology and geospatial technology
Interest in participating in department service-learning and STEM initiatives
