Mahe Karthikeyan January 16, 2015 Layers of Earth There are four layers of Earth. They are the crust, the mantle, the outer core, and the inner core. Scientists have learned about what’s inside Earth by studying seismic waves. The crust is the thinnest layer of all the other layers of Earth. It is also the layer that we are living on. Without the crust we wouldn’t even be living on Earth. The crust is the outermost layer. It protect from all the other layers that are kind of dangerous. The crust is a solid kind of rock. It is deeper under continents than on oceans. Beneath the crust is the mantle. The mantle is the thickest layer of all. The mantle is below the crust and on top of the outer core. Rocks move to pressure and high temperatures. After mantle is the outer core. The outer core is totally a liquid layer. The whole layer is mostly made out of liquid layer. The outer core is between mantle and the inner core. The next layer is the inner core. The inner core is a solid shaped sphere made mostly of iron. The inner core is the center of the earth. It is also the last layer of earth. It spins at a different rate than the other layers. Once you get to know the layers of the earth they are really fascinating. Even though they are all part of Earth, they are all very different. Someday you will probably learn more about the Earth’s layers than me.
