Professor Trevor Burke 16.20 Questions and Close Professor Trevor Burke Professor Trevor Burke Trevor graduated from Queens University in Belfast. He worked in general dental practice in Manchester from 1974 to 1996, also working in the Unit of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manchester. Principal activities include the treatment of patients often referred because of tooth wear, being Course Director of a Masters Course specifically designed for general dental practitioners (currently with 35 students), and research (detailed below). He has authored or co-authored 270 papers in peer-reviewed journals and been awarded over 80 research grants. His main research interests include properties and applications of tooth-colored restorative materials, clinical evaluation of materials and their performance in general dental practice, the design of an index of oral health for clinical audit and quality control, and ill health retirement among dentists. He co-ordinates the work of two practice-based research groups (The PREP Panel, with 31 dentists UK-wide and BRIDGE, a West Midlands group with 12 dentists). He has been Professor of Primary Dental Care at the University of Birmingham and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry since 2000. He is Chair of the European Practice-based Research Network of the IADR, is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Editorial Director of Dental Update. Trevor also is Chair of the Board of Dental Protection. Dr Martin Kelleher Martin Kelleher has a private practice in Bromley, Kent and is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at King`s College Dental Institute at Guy`s, King`s and St Thomas` Dental Hospitals. He graduated from Dublin in 1971, completed his Masters at the Eastman Dental Hospital in 1978 and spent another seven years in higher training to be an accredited specialist in restorative dentistry. He is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at King’s College London Dental Institute. He was postgraduate tutor at King’s College Hospital and Guy’s Dental Hospital for many years. He is a past president of the British Society for Restorative Dentistry and also served on the Board of Dental Protection Limited (DPL) for 10 years (until 2010), latterly as Chair of its Advisory Committee for Dental Claims. He is a Fellow of the Dental Faculties of the Royal Colleges of Glasgow and Edinburgh. He is a former examiner for the Intercollegiate Speciality Examination in Restorative Dentistry. He is on the General Dental Council Specialist Registers in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics. Martin has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally for over 25 years and is the author of many peer reviewed articles and a book on dental bleaching. Professor Tony Ireland Tony graduated from Guys Dental Hospital in 1982 and returned there in 1985 to do his specialist training in orthodontics, qualifying as a specialist in 1988. A further 3 years of postgraduate orthodontic training as a Senior Registrar enabled him to become a Consultant in Orthodontics in 1992, when he came to Bath. Tony teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate dental students in orthodontics and lectures widely. He is past Chairman of the Developments and Standards committee of the British Orthodontic Society and is the Principal UK expert in orthodontic materials on three International Standards Organisation committees. He is co-author of 2 orthodontic textbooks and has published over 50 articles on orthodontics and related dental subjects in national and international journals. Dr Tif Qureshi Tif Qureshi qualified from Kings College London in 1992. He is the Past President of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is a partner at Dental Elegance in Sidcup, Kent . He is an outspoken and controversial advocate of minimally and non invasive aesthetic and restorative dentistry.Tif has a special interest in simple orthodontics using removable appliances and was the first dentist in the UK to pioneer the Inman Aligner. He was the first dentist in the world to use the Aligner as a major tool for cosmetic dentistry . He has completed over 1000 cases using simple orthodontics as a stand alone treatment and to align teeth before cosmetic dentistry. Tif also pioneered the concept of Progressive Smile Design through Alignment Bleaching, Bonding and is also an experienced teacher in the Dahl concept to assist in minimally invasive dentistry. Tif now lectures nationally and internationally and has had many articles published on all these subjects. Tif is also on the editorial board of Dental Update. Dr Louis Mackenzie Louis Mackenzie is a general dental practitioner working in Selly Park, Birmingham. He is also a clinical lecturer at the school of dentistry where he teaches on final year GDP clinics and in the phantom head room with 2nd and 4th years. He delivers lectures to all years of undergraduate students for the departments of conservative dentistry, oral biology, oral pathology and in the introduction to clinical dentistry module.
