Connotation
Put on your Smarty Britches everyone because we have a new word to
learn! Connotation!
Connotation is the way a word makes you feel when you hear it.
The word “house” makes you think about a building, but the word “home”
makes you feel loved and safe. “Home” has a good connotation.
In the story, there are Rowdy Action Verbs. Usually, “Rowdy” has a bad
connotation; we always think that it means trouble. Action Verbs can,
however, have a good connotation or feeling. Watch and I will show you!
I smelled the awesome spaghetti that CC cooks and heard her yell,
“Supper is ready!” I ran to the kitchen and saw my plate on the table. My
stomach growled with hungry excitement.
Smelled, Cooks, Heard, Ran, Saw, and Growled are Action Verbs that have
good connotations or feelings in this sentence because I am about to eat
something wonderful!
Think of an Action Verb and write a sentence with it that has a good
connotation. Share it with your friends and family!
