Section Master thesis title Measures, time series analysis and modelling of climate proxies into antarctic ice cores supervisors Professor Aldo Nocentini, PhD Barbara Stenni 2 description The proxies used in this thesis (δD and δ 18 O) are derived from the isotopic composition of the water that is trapped in ice caps and that is recovered through the drilling of ice cores. The sizes of these proxy, obtained by mass spectrometry at the Laboratory of Isotope Geochemistry, University of Trieste, will be used as the observations of the variation of the isotopic composition of surface snow in the area close to the site of Talos Dome, in East Antarctica. These observations are then compared with the values obtained through simulations with the model Mixed Cloud Isotopic Model (Ciais P., J. Jouzel, 1994) with the aim of identifying areas that oceanic sources of moisture through the snowfall, is deposited on the study area.The thesis is structured to provide an introduction to the general concepts concerning the paleoclimatology (Chapter 1), Antarctica (Chapter 2), the atmosphere and climate (Chapter 3) and in Chapters 4 and 5 will be described in the model MCIM. In Chapter 6 we present the data obtained from measurements of samples from the Talos Dome ice core and TALDICE and will conclude the thesis with Chapter 7 where we will describe the work carried out through the use of the model MCIM. Appendix 1 will explain the methodology used to obtain measurements of the isotopic composition of the water and the appendix 2 contains a publication which is the result of measurements carried out for the period (8-25 kyr BP).
