Improper fractions and mixed numerals
Fractions are written as two numbers separated by a line. They have a ‘top’ and a ‘bottom’.
The top part is called
the numerator.
The bottom part is called
the denominator.

Converting improper fractions to mixed numerals
To convert improper fractions to mixed numerals, divide the numerator by the denominator and write the
remainder as a proper fraction.
