Practice – Discriminant, Solve Quadratic Equations, and Quadratic Formula
Algebra 1 Outline - Wednesday 5-11-16
1.) Use your notes to complete this practice worksheet with your partner.
2.) Double check your answers with the answer key on my website, and make all corrections with your partner.
3.) After you correct this practice worksheet, move onto your Khan Academy work by yourself:
3.a.) Complete Khan Academy Topic: Number of solutions of quadratic equations
3.b.) Complete Khan Academy Topic: Solve quadratic equations with the quadratic formula
3.c.) Complete Khan Academy mastery challenges
*** After class complete homework worksheet posted on my staff website calendar, and study for quiz Friday.
1. Find the discriminant. Tell how many and what type of solution for each quadratic equation below. Explain
for each.
2x2 + 5x – 7 = 0
-3x2 – x = 6
5x2 + 12x + 10 = 3x2 + 5x – 3
2. Solve the quadratic equations below (answer in simplest radical form and as a decimal rounded to the nearest
hundredth if possible).
24x2 = 30x
2x2 – 250 = 0
-5(x + 4)2 = -100
x2 – 9x = 22
5x2 – 23x – 10 = 0
3x2 + 4x = 15
3. Solve the quadratic equations below (answer in simplest radical form and as a decimal rounded to the nearest
hundredth if possible).
x2 – 7x + 4 = 0
2x2 – 10x – 40 = 5
-5x2 – 10x = 2x – 66
