(OR alternate subhead to use if practice’s buy-back will benefit a charity)
Local Orthodontic Patients to Surrender Halloween Candy to Help Others
Practice Name, Day, Date, Time, Place
(CITY/STATE/PROVINCE) – (DATE)— Move over Halloween! There’s another celebration this
fall, and it pays cash! To honor National Orthodontic Health Month, (city) orthodontist INSERT
DOCTOR’S NAME AND PRACTICE NAME invites patients and their families to trade-in
Halloween candy for the treat of helping others.
Dr. (last name) will pay participants $X for every pound of wrapped, store bought candy
surrendered, mention limits, if any – such as up to five pounds of candy per person. While
patients keep off-limits candy out of their teeth, the sweet treats will be sent to (list
organizations) just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. This festive Halloween Candy Buy-Back
event is open to (describe who can participate – patients/patients and their family/area
school(s)/community members). Candy will be accepted at the weigh-in, from (time) to (time) on
(day and date) at (place – office, local school, etc.) at (street address) in (city).
“Kids and adults love our annual Halloween candy buy-back program,” said Dr. (Last name).
“Parents appreciate their kids giving up their Halloween candy and it gives us the chance to
educate our patients about the trouble it can cause.” (Include next line if donating to AAO
Donated Orthodontic Services). “Plus it is a fantastic way to bring our community together for a
great cause, giving kids in need across the country a healthy, beautiful smile through the
American Association of Orthodontists Donated Orthodontic Services program.” OR include next
line if donating to charity of choice. “Plus it’s a great way as a community to help a worthy
cause.”
Dr. (Last name) notes that the days immediately following Halloween are usually an
orthodontist’s busiest time of year for emergency calls. S/he is hopeful that his/her candy buyback program will help patients avoid orthodontic emergencies, yet allow patients, especially
those in orthodontic treatment to have some Halloween fun.
It’s important to remember orthodontic treatment doesn’t mean patients have to miss out on all
the Halloween treats. According to Dr. Last name, plain chocolate or soft, chocolate-covered
peanut butter cups are permissible as long as patients remember to brush and floss thoroughly
immediately after indulging in sweet treats. Dr. Last name recommends that patients who are in
orthodontic treatment avoid these foods or candies:
• Caramel
• Taffy
• Bubblegum
• Peanuts
• Taco chips
• Unpopped kernels of popcorn
Free, orthodontic-friendly Halloween-themed recipes such as Quirky Quesadillas for Halloween,
Delightfully Devilish Deviled Eggs, Mummy Pizza Biscuits, Spooky Spider Web Bean dip and
others, are offered on the American Association of Orthodontists’ website at
https://www.mylifemysmile.org/recipes.
