Bretonneaux Hospital and University René Descartes Paris - Certificate in University Teaching Topic: Which limits for what compromise in orthodontic practice? saturday january 28, 2017 09:00 – 09:15 T o combine aesthetics and function in accordance with treatment objectives is the foundation of any orthodontic reflection. Patient requests provide the primary considerations for the establishment of treatment plan whose major goal is patient physical and psychic well being going towards the improvement of its quality of life. One of the special features of the orthodontic treatment of adults is the notion of "compromise" due to several characteristics of this category of patients: multiple edentulism, multidisciplinary treatments, biomechanical considerations ..... This treatment should not represent the outlet of a therapeutic failure. It must be decided as a strategy of intervention during the initial case study with the patient who needs to be well informed about the different therapeutic possibilities as well as the advantages and inconveniencies associated with each choice. However, the question that arises in similar cases is until which limit can this compromise be adopted and what elements determine the ideal therapeutic objectives vis a vis which the orthodontist can adhere to such treatment in order to find the optimum for each patient. In this lecture, we will try to answer these questions by means of some case studies.
