CA-MS World History and Geography: Ancient Civilizations Course Overview and Syllabus Course Number: SS1105CA6 Grade level: 6 Prerequisite Courses: None Credits: 1.0 Course Description Providing sixth grade students with an opportunity to learn the diverse history that has shaped our world, this course delves into the evolution of civilizations from the rise of ancient empires to the beginning of Middle Ages. Comprehensive and organized by region, this two-semester middle school course helps students understand the Earth’s physical and human diversity. Middle school students enrolled in this exciting and informative course will investigate the reasons for the development of ancient societies, the effects of the emerging civilizations, their problems, and the progress made during different periods of social, economic, and political development. Over the course of two semesters, students will analyze effects of political conflicts and social issues on the development and interdependence among early civilizations, and the contributions that tied them with the modern world. Course Objectives Throughout the course, you will meet the following goals: Identify and characterize early Eastern and Western human civilizations Explore the creation and evolution of government throughout the history of ancient civilizations Analyze the role of various civilizations and societies on developing social, economic, and political structures throughout history Examine various conflicts throughout world history and how these conflicts affected various societies Investigate the enduring contributions of ancient civilizations to the world today Page 1 | © Edgenuity Inc. Student Expectations This course requires the same level of commitment from you as a traditional classroom course would. Throughout the course, you are expected to spend approximately 5–7 hours per week online on the following activities: Interactive lessons that include a mixture of instructional videos and tasks Assignments in which you apply and extend learning in each lesson Assessments, including quizzes, tests, and cumulative exams Communication Your teacher will communicate with you regularly through discussions, email, chat, and system announcements.
