Invaders and Settlers

Science
Light
To understand that we need light to see in the
dark and what happens in the absence of
light. To understand and investigate how
light is reflected from surfaces. To understand
the effect of sunlight.
Design Technology
Look at different Roman mosaics – design and create
a Roman mosaic.
Explore and use mechanisms [for example,
wheels and axles], in their products. Design
and make aqueduct system and /or Roman clothes.
Art & Design
Use a range of materials creatively to design
and make products.
Explore Roman art & paint a Roman scene/
myth.
Create artefacts using clay - lamps/jugs/statues.
Use the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet
to create a Roman feast.
History
To know about significant historical events, people and
places and their impact on civilization. Study the
Romans and the Roman Empire. Understand the
timeline of Roman Empire, the impact of the
Roman Empire on Britain, changes from Roman
invasion – historical and modern and compare ancient
to modern civilization. We will be considering
democracy and rule of the laws well as how the
Romans and Celts showed respect for different faiths.
PE
Indoor – Athletics
Develop flexibility, strength, technique and control
through different events.
Outdoor – Net/wall games
Participate in team games, developing simple
tactics for attacking and defending. Link to the
Roman small ball game – Harpastum
We will be developing a tolerance of other
children as well as a mutual respect.

Geography
Name and locate European countries and identify
similarities and differences. Identify Rome from maps
and atlases and understand physical geography of
Italy.
Understand geographical similarities and differences
through studying the human and physical geography
of a small area of the United Kingdom and another
of a European country
i.e: Italy.
Music
Listen to music relating to Romans
and understand different types of
music through the history of music.
Develop vocal abilities through
singing using the Horrible Histories
songs, to discuss beat and rhythm in
songs.
Computing
We are presenters (making videos)
Understand how a video camera works
and shoot a video.
Edit video and understand why editing is
an important part of presenting.
Children will be using democratic values
to decide who is doing what in the
production of the video.
RE
Journeys
Retell stories of the Mysteries of the Rosary and special
feasts of the year. Use religious words to describe the
liturgical year and how it is composed of seasons and
feast days. Make links between scripture and Christians’
beliefs and describe some ways in which
prayer leads to good actions.
Eucharist – Listening and Sharing
Use religious words and phrases to describe the
actions and symbols used during the celebration of the
Eucharist and describe some ways in which Christians
share the Good News of Jesus.
