D3000 1.4 - Electromagnetic Devices-1 Items supplied with the D3000 1.4 study module include: Circuit board Laboratory manual Storage case Additional items required: D3000 Experiment Platform or D3000 Virtual Instrument Platform (VIP) Digital Multimeter* Oscilloscope* Signal Generator* * Note that separate test instruments are not needed if the D3000 VIP is used, as all required test equipment is provided in the form of on-screen ‘virtual’ instruments. If a D3000 VIP is used, or if the study module is to be used in a ClassAct computer managed learning environment, then a student PC will also be required. Optional supporting items: The D3000 1.4 study module introduces students to the principles of magnetism and electromagnetism through a wide range of practical activities. This study module has been designed specifically to operate within a DIGIAC modular electronics program. It comprises a circuit board and student laboratory manual housed in an injection molded storage case. When used in conjunction with a student personal computer (PC), the laboratory manual is fully compatible with the ClassAct computer managed learning system. The laboratory manual is divided into a series of chapters. Each covers a specific topic area and provides background theory, practical activities and student assessment questions. Each chapter is designed around a list of performance objectives. These objectives are used by the ClassAct management system to generate a student competency report. Typical topic areas include: Permanent Magnets and Magnetic Fields. Electromagnets Electromagnetic Induction Inductive Reactance The Transformer Solenoid Relay Force on a Conductor and Motor Principle Stepper Motor Instructor Solutions Book Provides question solutions and typical results for all work provided in the laboratory manual. eCAI package (electronic Computer Aided Instruction) Provides an on-screen, interactive version of the laboratory manual for use in stand-alone, ClassAct, ClassCampus or SCORM environments. Typical activities include: Assess the properties of magnetic core materials and the field strength around a magnet. Use the Hall probe to determine the behavior of an electromagnet with different core materials and their relative permeability. Determine the effect of core materials on coil inductance. Investigate the effect of turns ratio on voltage ratio. Investigate the effect of turns ratio on current ratio. Investigate the frequency response of different core materials. Investigate pull-in voltage for a solenoid. Determine pull-in and drop-out voltage and current for a relay. Diagnose faults in relay circuits. Investigate the operation of a simple DC motor. Determine EMF in a generator armature. Determine the operation of full step and half-step motors.
