TheVillageSchoolSummerBandCamps MondayJune5th–ThursdayJune15th,2017 (CampwillbeMonday-Thursdayeachweek) MiddleSchoolBeginningBandCamp 9:00am-11:30am Thiscampisdesignedforcurrent5thgradersandanyonewhowillbejoiningbandforthefirsttimeduringthe2017-18year. Studentswill: • Playwoodwindandbrassinstruments • Selectaninstrumenttheywanttoplayforthecamp • Learntoplayseveralnotesontheinstrumentoftheirchoice • Learnthebasicsofreadingmusicnotation • Performaconcertforparentsattheendofthecamp Itisnotnecessarytoselectaninstrumentbeforeattendingthiscamp.Studentswilltryallbrassandwoodwindinstrumentsand selecttheonetheylikebest.AllinstrumentswillbeprovidedbyTheVillageSchoolandCadenceMusic.Costofcampis$130 MiddleSchoolAdvancedBandCamp 9:00am–11:30am Thiscampisdesignedforcurrentmiddleschoolstudentswhohavecompletedatleastoneyearofband.Itwillbuilduponskills thestudenthasalreadylearnedintheirbandclass. Studentswill: • Reviewandlearnscalestoimprovetechnicalabilityontheirinstrument • Learntoperformadvancedrhythmpatterns • Performavarietyofbandliteratureinseveralstyles • Learnmanytechniquesforimprovingmusicianship • Performaconcertforparentsattheendofthecamp Studentsshouldbringtheirowninstrumentsforthiscamp.PercussionequipmentwillbeprovidedbyTheVillageSchool. Costofcampis$130 MiddleSchoolJazzBandCamp 12:30pm–2:30pm Thiscampisdesignedforcurrentmiddleschoolstudentswhohavecompletedatleastoneyearofband.StudentsMUSTplayan instrumentthatispartofthebigbandinstrumentation.Guitarplayers,bassplayers,anddrummersmusthavepriorexperience onthatinstrument.Thereislimitedspaceforrhythmsectionplayersandacceptanceofrhythmsectionplayerswillbeby banddirectorrecommendationonly. Studentswill: • Performjazzmusicofvariousstylesincludingswing,latin,androck • Learnthebasicsofimprovisingjazzsolos • Learnaboutsomeofthemusicianswhoinfluencedthehistoryofjazz Studentsshouldbringtheirowninstrumentsforthiscamp.Piano,drumset,andbassamplifierwillbeprovidedbyTheVillage School.Costofcampis$130 TwoCampSpecial!!!MiddleSchoolAdvancedBandandJazzBandCampfor$225 (Studentswhoattendbothcampswillhavealunchbreakfrom11:30am-12:30pminTheVillageSchoolCafeteria.Theymaybring theirlunchorpurchaselunchforasmallcost.Pizzaandsnackswillbeavailableforpurchase.)
