Education Workshops Partners in development and delivery of Safe Partying & AOD presentations Workshops are interactive with a variety of engaging delivery methods utilised. Depending on which presentation, the workshop may include PowerPoint, quizzes, activities, brainstorms, scenarios, video and music clips, discussions, useful websites, prizes, and health and contact information handouts. 20 minute presentation 1. What Is headspace Geelong? For single classes & large groups Provides an introduction to headspace Geelong with a focus on how to access headspace, For students: Year 7 + the services available and what to expect. 90 minute presentation 2. Young People & Mental Illness—RuOK? Unit For single classes & large groups Provides clear explanations of types, symptoms, risk factors and treatments of mental For students: Year 9 + illnesses: depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use disorder and eating disorders. This is unit 3 in the Docs and Teens program, but can stand alone. 45 minute presentation 3. So You Are Worried About A Friend For single classes & large groups The presentation centres around the premise that young people generally turn to their For students: Year 7 & 8 friends for help. It explains the terms mental health and mental illness, what to look out for in yourself or a friend who may be struggling, and what can be done to help. 45 or 90 minute presentations 4. Stress, Anxiety or Both For single classes & large groups Select from three options: Stress (45 minute), Anxiety (45 minute) or Stress and Anxiety (90 For students: Year 9 + minute). They address common signs and symptoms of stress or anxiety (or both), and the short and long term harms. Safe Partying: Alcohol or All Drugs Standard drinks & Beer goggles Select from three options: Alcohol (45 minute), Alcohol (90 minute) or All Drugs (90 minute). For small groups up to 25 students Information varies depending on which presentation, but can cover drug classifications, short/ For students: Year 9 + long term effects, potential risks/harms associated with partying and safety strategies. 90 minute presentation 6. Young People: Alcohol & Other Drugs / & Mental Health For small groups up to 25 students Select from two options: YP: AOD (90 minute) or YP: AOD and Mental Health (90 minute). For students: Year 9 + Provides a clear explanation of what is a drug, drug classifications, effects, reasons people use drugs, warning signs someone has a problem with drugs and who to go to for help. 90 minute presentation 7. Bullying For single classes & large groups Students learn how the bullying “game” is played. The presentation covers the nature of the For students: Year 7 + bully, how they choose a target and the effects. It teaches students tips for protecting themselves from bullying (including cyber bullying) and where to go to for support. Session length negotiable 8. Parent / Staff Info Sessions—Sexuality or Mental Health For small & large groups A General Practitioner (GP) provides insight on understanding and supporting the sexual health For parents & staff of teenagers. Mental health workers deliver on signs, symptoms and treatments of mental illness. All information is provided to assist staff and parents feel better able to support youth.
