POSITION SUMMARY The Health Promotion Adviser will be responsible for raising awareness about youth mental health and providing accessible information about mental health issues and service systems. This will be achieved by ensuring communication and awareness strategies cater for young people, family and friends, schools, health professionals and the general community. The outcome being that schools, young people and the general community are more aware of headspace services as well as mental health and related issues. 2. POSITION CONTEXT The role is located within the Corporate Affairs team at the headspace National Office. The Corporate Affairs team is responsible for strategic internal and external communications and marketing, fundraising, brand management, media liaison, community awareness campaigns and stakeholder engagement. 3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/OUTCOMES The primary objective of the Health Promotion Adviser role is to support and assist the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of community awareness and mental health promotion initiatives, as well as provide support to headspace School Support and eheadspace, the online mental health and telephone service. Identifying resources and developing content to support headspace community awareness and social marketing campaigns. Developing mental health resources (print,digital and social media) and ensuring the accessibility of headspace social marketing and communications strategies are relevant to audiences, such as young people, family and friends, health professionals, schools, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities (ATSI), Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Intersex Queer (LGBTIQ) etc. Consulting and working in partnership with key headspace staff (Corporate Affairs, Centre of Excellence, Clinical Leadership Team, headspace Youth National Reference Group) to ensure content and resource development is relevant and appropriate. Developing and implementing a range of communications strategies designed to raise awareness of headspace programs and activities (headspace School Support and eheadspace). Building and maintaining positive partnerships with headspace specific stakeholders in the education and health sectors and working collaboratively to develop and implement agreed strategies. Identifying gaps and needs for health promotion initiatives and programs by consulting with the headspace centres, headspace School Support, eheadspace and young people. Proposing actions in relation to priorities for community awareness and health promotion by analysing available evidence from local, regional, state, national and/or international data. Other duties consistent with the position/division where required and/or requested by the Head of Corporate Affairs or the headspace Executive. SELECTION CRITERIA The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position: 4.1 Essential Tertiary qualifications in public relations, health promotion or marketing. Experience working on communications and/or marketing campaigns aimed at raising awareness or changing behaviours. Well-developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills including experience writing for diverse audiences and styles. Working knowledge of either the education or health sectors. Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work and interact with a wide range of people. Strong organisational and project management skills. Ability to work in a highly productive team and within a matrix structure, as well as independently when required in an environment with time pressures and involving multitasking. Experience in developing materials in a range of media formats. 4.2 Desirable Knowledge and understanding of youth mental health and alcohol and other drug issues. Experience with partnerships that span different sectors. Experience in issues, media and stakeholder management. ABN 14 062 081 841 headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation Ltd is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing under the Youth Mental Health Initiative Program. 5 JOB COMPLEXITY, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE 5.1 Level of Supervision/Independence This position will report directly to the Manager Corporate Affairs. The incumbent will also work with Manager School Support and Manager eheadspace as well as working closely with the other members of the headspace Corporate Affairs, School Support and eheadspace teams, as well as the Executive team. 5.2 Problem Solving and Judgement/Risk The incumbent will be required to coordinate community awareness and health promotion initiatives and reports and other appropriate communications to advocate for change in the youth mental health arena. This will require the capacity for lateral thinking and highly developed conceptual and analytical skills. The incumbent will be expected to provide advice to the Corporate Affairs Team and will be expected to problem solve and use initiative in situations which may involve issues that require resolution between headspace program areas. In such situations, discretion, sensitivity and diplomacy will need to be executed. 5.3 Professional and Organisational Knowledge The Health Promotion Adviser will be expected to: Have a broad understanding of youth mental health and drug and alcohol issues. Have a breadth of understanding of the different types of organisations involved in mental health and drug and alcohol service delivery to young people. Possess excellent computer skills with a demonstrated ability in word processing, PowerPoint and databases as required. Have knowledge of health promotion practices and principles, specifically relating to youth mental health. Have an understanding of national health promotion campaign development, implementation and effectiveness. The position holder will be required to have a good knowledge of headspace and the services offered to young people, including those offered by the local headspace centres. 5.4 Breadth of the position While the position has a specific focus on informing developing communication and resources relevant for the headspace School Support and eheadspace teams, there will also be an expectation that the role will incorporate other headspace related activities and responsibilities as directed by the Head of Corporate Affairs, the Manager Corporate Affairs, the Manager headspace School Support or the Manager eheadspace 6 POLICIES AND WORKPLACE PRACTICES All headspace employees are required to acquaint themselves with the organisation’s policies and procedures and to abide by them at all times.
