Social Studies Lesson Plans Date: Period: Topic/Title Zhou Dynasty Question this lesson will answer What were the contributions of the Zhou to early China? By: Ryan Teague Purpose/Rationale/Goals of the day's lesson: The purpose of this lesson is to show the students the contributions of the Zhou dynasty. The goals of this lesson are to familiarize the students with: 1. The Mandate of Heaven 2. The growth of economy under the Zhou. 3. Discovery of silk and its role as an export. 4. The construction of the Great Wall. How does this lesson fit into unit? Where have you been and where are you going? This lesson fits in to a section dealing with the dynasties and contributions of early china. This unit has also covered the geography and religions of China. Objectives: (think about cognitive, affective, and psychomotor). Are they measurable SWBAT: 1. Identify and define the Mandate of Heaven 2. Understand the events that lead to the growth of the Chinese economy. 3. Identify the significance of the construction of the Great Wall NCSS themes w/ indicators II: Time Continuity and Change V: Individuals, Groups, and Institutions VI: Power, Authority, and Governance VIII: Science, Technology and Society Standards of Learning: 8.8: The student will describe and compare selected civilizations in Asia, Africa, and the Americas, in terms of chronology, location, geography, social structures, form of government, economy, religion, and contribution to later civilizations, including: • China, with emphasis on the Tang dynasty; the traditions, customs, beliefs, and significance of Buddhism; the impact of Confucianism and Taoism; and the construction of the Great Wall.
