The Marshall Plan was implemented in 1947 and provided $13 billion in loans to weakened countries in Western Europe. They are split along the 38°N parallel. China supports North Korea. The North Koreans wanted and still want South Korea for themselves. The US got involved in this conflict and it ended with no side winning. Stalemate - No side could make a move to win. However, the US has military bases in South Korea to keep an eye on the North Koreas and help them continue to be a Democracy. North Korea has Nuclear weapons that could begin WWIII.
