10A Body Systems Guided Practice Name: ____________________________ 1. Using the yellow cards, read the description of interactions on your table. Find the correct system interaction card and place it over the description. Have your teacher check your work before you write the correct systems above or below the description in your notes below. IMMUNE & DIGESTIVE INTEGUMENTARY & CIRCULATORY IMMUNE & LYMPHATIC These two organ systems interact to protect the body from infection caused by bacteria and other germs. Both of these organ systems interact to protect the body from infection and regulate body temperature. These two systems work together to digest fast and transports the digested fats to the blood stream. The oxygen for the body is controlled by the interaction of these two systems. Without the interaction between these two systems, touching a hot surface could results in more damage than a simple blister. These two systems interact to make specialized cells and hormones, which ensure that a species of animal continues. NERVOUS & CIRCULATORY NERVOUS & INTEGUMENTARY ENDOCRINE & REPRODUCTIVE 2. First, refer to the systems sheet that list functions and parts of each system. In the table below, describe what it happening in the picture in detail (use words from the parts side). Then write what 2 systems are being used in the picture. Be sure to have your teacher check EACH observation before you move on to the next picture. Observation Description of interaction The boys uses his muscles to chew & swallow the food. Smooth muscles then push food through the stomach & intestines, into the rectum, and through the anus. The digestive system begins to break down food in the mouth with enzymes in the saliva, stomach acid further breaks apart food and nutrients & water are absorbed in the intesBoy eating a water- tines. Systems interacting MUSCULAR & DIGESTIVE melon The girl’s skeletal system provides structure & aids her muscular system in movement. The muscles push the pedals forward & down & balance the girl on the bike. Girl riding a bicycle MUSCULAR & SKELETAL Observation Description of interaction Systems interacting The boys immune system produces mucus antibodies in the nose & sends white blood cells to fight the viruses causing his cold. The lymphatic system produces lymphocytes to also fight the infection. IMMUNE & LYMPHATIC The baby pushes on the cervix. This pressure causes her hormones to produce the hormone progesterone. The hormone travels through the blood stream and causes contraction in her uterus to push the baby farther toward the birth canal. The more contractions, the more hormones… the cycle repeats until the baby is pushed through the birth canal. ENDOCRINE & REPRODUCTIVE Boy fighting an infection Lady giving birth The person touches a flame. The epidermis NERVOUS protects the dermis from damage from the & flame. The nervous system sends messages INTEGUMENTARY of “hot & pain” to the brain and the brain in return sends messages to the muscles to remove the hand from the flame. Person touching the flame The nervous system recognizes the boy’s body temperature is rising. It sends messages to the sweat glands in the skin to excrete waste. The integumentary system starts to sweat to reduce the internal body temperature. INTEGUMENTARY & NERVOUS Boy sweating 3. Think about what each of these organ systems do individually and as a group. Why is important that an organ system interact with other organ systems?
