Articles of the
Constitution
Article I
Defines the power and structure of the legislative
branch.
All legislative powers herein granted shall be
vested in a Congress of the United States, which
shall consist of a Senate and House of
Representatives.
The main role of Congress, the legislative branch, is to make
laws. Congress is made up of 2 houses-Senate and House of
Representatives. Candidates must meet certain requirements.
Congress performs specific duties.
The job of Congress is to voice the concerns and views
of the people
Article II
Creates the executive branch of government.
The executive power shall be vested in a President
of the United States of America. He shall hold his
office… …together with the Vice President…
The president and vice-president are the leaders of the executive
branch. Their main role is to enforce the laws. The president
commands the military and makes foreign treaties with the
Senate’s approval.
As the US has become a world power, the authority of
the president has also expanded.
Article III
Establishes the judicial branch of the government.
The judicial power of the United States, shall be
vested in one Supreme Court…
The judicial branch interprets the laws. This branch includes the
Supreme Court, the highest court in the nation, and other federal
courts.
Supreme Court rulings can shape government policies on
hotly debated issues.
Article IV
Outlines the obligations of the states to each other
Full faith and credit shall be given in each state
to the public acts, record, and judicial
proceedings of every other state.
States must honor one another’s laws, records, and court rulings.
Article 4 promotes cooperation, equality, and fair
treatment of citizens from all the states.
Article V
Describes the process by which the Constitution
may be altered
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both
houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose
amendments to this Constitution…
The Constitution can be amended, or formally changed.
The amendment process allows the Constitution to adapt
to modern times
Article VI
Establishes that the U.S. Constitution is the
Supreme law of the land.
This Constitution, and laws of the United
States…and all treaties made…under the
authority of the U.S, shall be the supreme law of
the land…
The Constitution, national laws, and treaties are the supreme, or
highest law of the land. All government officials must promise to
support the Constitution.
The authority of federal laws over state laws helps keep
the nation unified
