Surface Anatomy/Anatomical Terms
o Learn the following regional terms:
abdominal antebrachial antecubital axillary
brachial calcaneal cephalic cervical
femoral gluteal inguinal lumbar
sacral scapular sternal thoracic vertebral

Body Orientation and Direction/Directional Terms
o superior /inferior- toward the head/ away from the head
o anterior / posterior- toward the front of the body/back of the body
o medial / lateral- toward the midline/ away from the midline
o proximal /distal- [closer to /farther from] the point of attachment or origin
o superficial /deep- [closer to /farther from] the surface of the body

Body Planes and Sections
o Sagittal- lateral portions
 Midsagittal- through midline; equal halves
 Parasagittal- not through the midline; unequal portions
o Coronal or Frontal- anterior and posterior portions
o Transverse or Cross-section- superior and inferior portions

o Dorsal Body Cavity
 Cranial and Spinal Cavities
