Originally supposed to be two… the other was the Speedwell… something was wrong with it, so they ended up filling the Mayflower alone Mayflower It was a really long journey to the New world Original destination was to be in New England After only 66 days, they began to fall ill and many died along the way Ended up not reaching their destination and landed in an unknown area There was some discontent on the ship, so they created the Mayflower contract which became the first form of government in the U.S. What was life like in Plymouth When Pilgrims FINALLY reach destination… Call it Plymouth This was a colony made of wealthy-ish people… they did not know how to survive and landed during a non-growing season Didn’t know how to farm Began to die off…. quickly Squanto and the Native Americans Reached out to the Colonists Gave them food and treated the ill Taught them to farm Taught them crop rotations They would never have made it without them Thanksgiving… What is it?
