Chunk 1: Left out over a series of days Result: Meat was filled with maggots, thus spontaneous generation must have occurred Chunk 2: Left out over a series of days BUT was kept concealed in a jar. Result: Meat was a little hot and smelly, but NO MAGGOTS. Redi realized that the reason there was no maggots was because flies were kept from the meat and thus could not lay eggs.
