On Thursday, July 3, 2003, members of the Penn State Football team will
launch the first annual Lift for Life to benefit the Kidney Cancer Association.
The squad will break into teams of four players and/or staff to participate in an
11-event competition testing their mental and physical toughness. Lift for Life
will include some traditional weightlifting exercises such as the bench press as
well as some extreme events such as the giant tire flip! Don't miss your
opportunity to contribute to the very first fundraiser organized entirely by
current Nittany Lions!
Several squad members have immediate family that has been affected by kidney
cancer. Limited funding is available for kidney cancer research because most
funds are allocated towards standard first line treatments (chemotherapy and
radiation), which are effective against other forms of cancer but not effective
against this disease. The Kidney Cancer Association is a voluntary health and
membership organization made up of patients, survivors, family members,
physicians, researchers, and other health professionals. Their goal is to continue
their efforts until a cure for kidney cancer is found and made available to all
patients.
You can support Lift for Life by sponsoring one or more of the teams or by
making a general donation to the event. The Nittany Lions' goal is to raise
money and awareness for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of kidney
cancer. Lift for Life will be held on July 3rd, 2003.
We invite you to become part of the Penn State Football family as we join
forces with the Kidney Cancer Association. Our motivation is personal but we
cannot do it alone! TOGETHER, WE ARE STRONGER!!!
