By Ethan Henry! The war sparked from the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Sarajevo by a Serb nationalist. All the countries were fighting and each came to each others aid. Russia came to Serbia’s aid, and Germany declared war on France. He was born on the 13th of April 1861. He died on the 7th of June 1917. He fought for the UK in WW1. He was buried in the convent garden at Locre on the day after he was killed The army men were freezing in their trenches but they felt the Christmas spirit. The two sides put their weapons aside and met in No Mans Land. They drank alcohol and sang carols They played a football match also. Poison gas was one of the most feared weapons in World War 1. People have gone blind because of it. People in the war had to wear gas masks to protect themselves. It killed thousands of people during the war. HELP!! (Cough* ) Life was very hard for the people in the trenches. But only a small portion lived in there. A lot of them stayed out fighting. Rats would live with them The construction on the boat started on the 9th of June 1904. It was launched on the 7th of June 1906. It was sank by a German U-boat off the coast of Kinsale,Cork in 1917. That was one the reasons USA were in the war. The poppy is a symbol of those whose lives were lost. The Flanglers field (Belgium) is the most famous of the Poppy fields. Poppy's grew in the battlefield of The Somme. The Poppy field was the battlefield The U-Boat was a serious fighting machine in WW1. It was a German submarine. The U-Boat called the U-9 sank 3 British ships in less then an hour on the 22nd of September 1914. Their objective was to stop the boats with the food and weapons going to England. The Somme was the biggest of the battles in WW1. The battle took place in 1916. A lot of Irish soldiers fought in that battle. 58,000 British soldiers were killed in that battle.
