EUROPEAN UNION
• Created in 1948.
• Alliance between
European countries to
ensure they would not go
to war again.
• Allows free trade between
members, easy to travel
between countries, and
use single currency called
the Euro.
WARSAW PACT
• Created in 1955.
• An alliance between
communist countries in
Europe to defend each other
in case NATO attacked them
• The soviets were afraid of an
American attack similar to
the one it used in Japan to
end the war.
