The Alliance is pleased to announce a new tool to assist health care
professionals, patients and caregivers find the support services to
help them cope with the emotional and practical issues they may
face.
The Alliance has compiled hundreds of psychosocial resources available nationwide
which address many types of support, types of cancer and other circumstances. It is
our hope that these resources are more readily accessible they are more likely to be
utilized to address the unmet psychosocial needs that currently exist in cancer care.
The tool is available on a new website, www.wholecancerpatient.org, which allows
users to search for particular services or resources available nationally or in their
community. Types of support include:









Clinical trials
Counseling and Emotional Support
Decision Support
Fertility
Financial Assistance
Housing
Information and Education
Legal Advice and Assistance
Transportation
The Alliance, formed in 2008, is an coalition of professional and advocacy organizations
engaged in providing a range of services to cancer patients and survivors, including emotional
and social support, and clinical care. The membership currently includes 36 organizations.
The goal of the Alliance is to advance recommendations from the Institute of Medicine
report, “Cancer Care for the Whole Patient: Meeting Psychosocial Health Needs.” The
Alliance vision is to ensure that psychosocial care is integrated in the medical standard
of care for people with cancer.
