• forth-telling: revealing something private

• that must therefore be tested
– what it says about Jesus
– how it compares to scripture
– whether predictions come true
– the character of the prophet/prophetess

– revelation for the entire church at all times
– Jesus and the Apostles

Ephesians 2:19–21
…you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are
of God’s household, having been built on the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ
Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom
the whole building, being fitted together, is
growing into a holy temple in the Lord

– revelation for the entire church at all times
– Jesus and the Apostles
– ended with the death of the Apostles
Prophecy
2. Localized Prophecy ”…with a lowercase-p”
– revelation to a particular person or group at a
particular time
– any believer with the gift of prophecy
– may still be active today
Tongues
the ability to praise God in a language
unknown to the speaker
• to authenticate the presence of the Spirit
• to edify the church
BUT only with companion gift: interpretation!

Love Trumps All because…
1 John 4:8 …God is love.
Romans 5:8

us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ
died for us.
