Lesson # 15
Revelation Chapter 22
Informational chapter
Revelation 22:1-2 (KJV)
1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as
crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the
Lamb.
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the
river, was there the tree of life, which bear twelve manner of
fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the
tree were for the healing of the nations.
The description of the clear water of the river of life
flowing from God’s throne shows that there is absolutely
no pollution in the New Jerusalem or on the new earth.
The Golden Street in the New Jerusalem is actually a
boulevard. The river of life flows down the middle of it,
and the trees of life, the only species of tree in the entire
city, grow on both banks. This tree bares 12 kinds of fruits
and produces every month. Its fruit is to be eaten by the
overcoming believers.
Paul gives insight into the magnificence of the New
Jerusalem, he writes: but as it is written: Eye hath not seen,
nor ear heard, nor hath entered into the hearts of man the
things which God has prepared for those who love him.
The Food of Heaven
Often people ask, since our bodies will be glorified, will
we eat in Heaven?
Yes, we will eat at the marriage supper of the Lamb,
during the millennium and in the New Jerusalem.
Following the resurrection, Jesus in his glorified body ate
fish and bread with his disciples. He even cooked for
them.
In Heaven we will not eat because we need
nourishment or because we’re hungry, we will have the
pleasure of eating Gods special fruit of the tree of life.
The Eighth Unknown
The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Our understanding of this verse is limited. We know that
everyone who eats of the tree of life will have unending
health. The nations of this verse are the ones which occupy
the new earth and have access to the city. Since there is no
sickness or disease, and the leaves maintain life as they would
have for Adam.
The Church Company, serving as God’s Kings and
Priests, possessing total knowledge, will certainly have full
understanding as to the healing effect of the leaves of the
tree of life.
Keep The Sayings Of Revelation
Revelation 22:3-7 (KJV)
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne
of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his
servants shall serve him:
4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be
in their foreheads.
5 And there shall be no night there; and they need
no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God
giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and
ever.
6 And he said unto me, these sayings are faithful and
true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel
to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be
done.
7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the
sayings of the prophecy of this book.
With verse seven the prophecy that began in Revelation
four closes. Verse eight through 21 concludes John’s cover
letter of Revelation 1. This letter conveys the final remarks
which the lord directs John to speak to the seven churches in
Asia. These statements are also directed to the church as a
whole until the end of the church age.
Revelation 22:8-9 (KJV)
8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I
had heard and seen I fell down to worship before the feet of
the angel which shewed me these things.
9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy
fellow servant, and of thy brethren the prophets and of them
which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
The theme of this book is Jesus. The book reveals the
last act of Gods master performance. It emphasizes that we
are to worship the only true God who created heaven and
earth, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Peter, James, John
and Paul, the God who gave us the only Savior, Jesus Christ,
the God who provides for those who accept his son. Worship
God – not man! Worship the Creator – not the creature not
money or things:
Revelation Is Not Sealed
Revelation 22:10 (KJV)
10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the
prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
Daniel’s prophecies were sealed till the time of the
end. This seal has been lifted! John writes – the time is at
hand. This statement also appears in Revelation 1 verse
three. John sent the prophecy to the seven churches with
the intention that its distribution be continued. He
admonished the churches to keep the things written in the
prophecy. This instruction applies to each succeeding
generation of the Church.
`
Until recently revelation was approached by trying to
understand with our carnal minds and with fear. God’s Word
cannot be interpreted by these means but only by the Holy
Spirit. Today we are living in the time of the end, as
taught by Daniel in Chapter 12. The Holy Spirit is causing
a word explosion. He is changing our theology our
doctrine and their attitudes. We are growing in God’s
Word, and our understanding is becoming increasingly
more fruitful.
Revelation 22:11 (KJV)
11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is
filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let
him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy
still.
The prophecy of this book will not change all
unrighteous people into righteous ones or afford the
righteous any greater tools than are already available.
The prophecy will eventually affect all people. But
whether or not they change their course, the prophecy
must declare, and behold I come quickly and my reward is
with me, to give to everyone according to his work.
There are two kinds of judgment – good or bad, in
favor or against. The judgment seat of Christ is favorable.
When one is raptured, he has already been judged
righteous and victorious, ready for the event. No one will
be raptured unless God’s favor is already upon him.
When Jesus comes to catch up his own, he brings
their rewards with him. This is a judgment of rewards, so
go to work! No one is saved by works, but works
determine the reward of the righteous.
Revelation 22:13-15 (KJV)
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the
first and the last.
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments that they
may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through
the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and
whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and
whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Here is another passage which indicates the
unrighteous will not inherit the earth. This statement in
verse 21:8 and 27 are warnings to those who habitually
participate in the activities described.
Do not alter the word
Revelation 22:16-19 (KJV)
16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these
things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of
David, and the bright and morning star.
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him
that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come.
And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of
the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these
things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written
in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the
book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of
the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the
things which are written in this book.
This passage contains a strong admonition not to
tamper with any part of God’s Word. Since Revelation is
tied into both the old and the New Testament, this warning
covers the entire Bible.
Declaring that part of the word has been done away
with or that certain portions are not for us today is
tampering with the word. Such action is flirting with
disaster.
God’s Love Is with Us
Revelation 22:19-20 (KJV)
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the
book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of
the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the
things which are written in this book.
20 He which testifieth these things saith, surely I come
quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
The revelation closes with a magnificent note. It
assures us of Jesus glorious return and reminds us that his
love is certainly with us while we await the event. Let us
grow in the grace and the knowledge of the Lord into full
maturity, in which there are no divisions, and enjoy unity
of faith and complete knowledge of the son of God.
