To understand your customers’ needs and wants, you have to identify and solve your customers’ problem. Successful businesses always completely solve customers’ problems. For example, Facebook connects people, Coco Chanel sells “dreams in a bottle”, Virgin brings fairness and value back into a monopolised industry. So what is the problem you are solving? What makes your way of solving problems special? How are you connecting with your customers? This information sets the tone for your cube business and how well you establish your first impression with shoppers. Top Tip: Use this summary yourself when conducting your Power Sell. Update this from time to time. When customers walk past your cube, they can be greatly influenced by the visual display of your products. In today’s ultra-competitive market place it is of paramount importance that you understand the basics of visual merchandising. Here are some Visual Merchandising Tips to help you maximize your efforts. Unprofessional signage is confusing to the customer and sends a negative message about your products. Common problems include too many signs, ambiguous or misleading messages, hand written, spelling errors or signs that are difficult to read. Top Tip: Don’t go crazy with colours, pick a simple theme, yet uniquely recogniseable. Change Displays Frequently For example, a necklace will sell better if it is showcased on a display stand, instead of being kept in a plastic packaging and thrown anywhere that fits in the cube. Add complimenting products to the showcased necklace, such as matching earrings. Signage is one of the most important ways to convey your message to your customers. Your store name, promotions, pricing, and product information may all be conveyed through signage. Are you getting these messages across effectively? As a customer walks by your cube, you have about 3 seconds to let them know what they will find inside. What message are you sending? Professional signage will attract the customer, provide just the right amount of information and invite the customer to spend more time in your cube. Product Display Display Sale Products in a Creative Way Signage This visual merchandising tip reminds us that customers want to see new and different products. Cubes that don’t change their displays frequently will have customers simply walking past displays that are no longer fresh. If the customers have seen the same display or arrangement of products for several weeks, the displays are no longer new or exciting to them. If they see a competitor that is constantly and creatively changing their visuals, there is a good chance shoppers will buy from them. Top Tip: Make it easy to read. Keep your message simple. Have a simple colour scheme and stick to it. Colour Matters Colour can demand a shopper’s attention, evoke emotion and influence decisions. Also, visually decorating your cube with bright and colourful focal points will help draw shoppers to those key areas. The External Marketing Effort Sponsor / Join Interest Groups Email Marketing Always look for opportunities to sponsor or join interest groups which best relate to your target market. People always buy from people they know. Top Tip: Focus on building real personal relationships with these members rather than thinking about hard sales tactics. Remember to always help to solve people’s problems. It’s free, it’s quick, it’s easy and everybody has an email. Why would anybody not use it? Top Tip: People are sick of spam nowadays, so make sure your message does not look like one. Try lots of pictures, interesting facts, and above all, personal and relevant. Referral Program Face-to-Face Selling Have a referral system which not only rewards word of mouth recommendations, but more importantly to make the people feel proud to refer customers to you. Top Tip: Referral program can apply to customers and also friendly, complimentary businesses. This is also called cross-promoting. All wildly successful entrepreneurs are brilliant sales people. The most fundamental method of selling is physically facing to your customer. Top Tip: It is more than enough to bring your customer physically to the store and we are very happy for you to do that. However, leave the store as soon as the customer finishes purchasing as unnecessary lingering at the store will disrupt the flow of the store and decreases your potential sales. Product Promotions Plan a special promotion for people to specifically travel to the store to purchase from you. Top Tip: Don’t discount, It’s all about adding value. Your job is to satisfy your customer not to return their money. Social Media Marketing Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google+, Youtube, Myspace, Flickr, Instagram, DeviantArt, LiveJournal, Tagged, Orkut, CafeMom, Ning, Meetup, myLife, myYearbook, Badoo, Weibo, BIGADDA, Blogster, Buzznet, CouchSurfing, Cyworld, Cross.tv, douban, GamerDNA, Habbo, Plurk, WAYN, Xanga, Pintrest. Top Tip: Always incorporate REAL, meaningful physical interaction with online communication. For example, download promotional brochure from Facebook photo album. Newspapers and Print Media There are inexpensive advertisement packages in local small newspapers which may be appropriate to your Cubiz. Always offer to write for them free educational editorials for their readers. Some of these papers maybe more than happy to receive free interesting articles. Top Tip: Send as many press releases as you possibly can. Make sure they offer interesting facts with lots of pictures. Website Marketing A private website is the premium online experience as you can customise the user experience. Top Tip: This can get expensive if not careful. Always look for free templates or piggyback onto other websites or social media sites.
