RS Thomas Literary Festival Friday 24th 24– 27 June 2016 June 2:30pm – 3:30pm Between Sea and Sky The work of Peter Hope Jones, which brings together evocative photography of Bardsey Island with Thomas’s poetry. Some rare copies of the book for sale. Presented by Professor Jason Walford Davies. Venue: Sailing club 7:30pm – 9:30pm Coleridge in Wales: Thomas in Abercuawg Join the Coleridge in Wales Festival journey as it arrives in Aberdaron for the RS Thomas Festival. Visualised through Elsi’s mural The Dance of Life Presented by Rev Dr John G McEllhenney Venue: Sailing club 2pm – 4pm Too Brave to Dream: RS Thomas and Modern Painting A discussion of Thomas's late poems in response to a series of modernist paintings, including work by Matisse, Dali, and Henry Moore, considering the nature of the poet’s reflections. Presented by Emeritus Professor Tony Brown Venue: Sailing club The lecture is followed by the launch of the new volume Too Brave to Dream by Bloodaxe Books, who publish these poems for the first time. Richard Parry and John McEllhenney Venue: Hen Blas Café 1:30pm – 4pm In the Artist’s Studio: Room for the Two A re-creation of the artist’s studio built by Elsi, which later became Thomas’s study. Scheduled 30 minute viewings, maximum 5 people at a time. Venue: Sarn y Plas 12:45pm – 5:30pm Walking in the Footsteps of RS Thomas Reading the poetry in the landscape which inspired him. Minibus ride to Sarn Plas; 20 minute visit to the studio; drop off at Rhiw village; walk via Penarfynydd, Llanfaelrhys church, back to Aberdaron. 6 miles Led by Susan Fogarty [limited to 10 walkers] 7pm – 9.30pm Fish Chips and Poetry Please [Gluten Free!] Open-mike poetry for all. Two and half hour’s drive from Aberdaron, with time for lunch in Wrexham.
