Research Topics in Discovery and Artificial Intelligence
In this talk I will briefly present my research interests and some planned projects. My
primary interests are in the areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning/data
mining, and my current research is focused upon: (1) dramatically increasing the
autonomy and power of machine learning/data mining programs, (2) applying the
discovery programs I develop to biomedical databases, and (3) capturing, representing
and using background knowledge. I am also interested in integrating AI techniques into
traditionally non-AI areas; for example, I would like to study the use of AI and machine
learning techniques to determine the structure and function of proteins given their amino
acid sequences. I will detail many of my planned research projects, which range from
small (term-project sized), well-defined projects to large projects which will span many
doctoral dissertations.
