KINGDOM
CLASSIFICATIONS
HISTORY OF THE KINGDOM SYSTEMS
Aristotle first started classifying organisms
Originally a 5 kingdom system: animalia, plantae,
fungi, protista, and monera.
recently we have archaebacteria added and monera
became eubacteria.
Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, Protista, Eubacteria, and
Archaebacteria.

SIX KINGDOMS
Archaebacteria: organisms that resemble bacteria but
live in extreme conditions
Eubacteria: typical bacteria
Protista: examples are algae, protozoa, slime molds
Fungi: examples are molds, mushroom, yeasts
Plantae: examples are mosses, ferns, grasses
Animalia: examples are sponges, insects, jellyfish,
snails, kangaroos

HOW TO USE A
TAXONOMIC KEY
We use
taxonomic
keys to
classify
animals
when we
don’t know
what they
are,
especially
plants.
CLADOGRAMS
Read them from
bottom to top.
Get more
complex and
exclusive as you
go up.
Shows relation.
