Health Education England Maternity Safety Training Catalogue Developing people for health and healthcare www.hee.nhs.uk 1 HEE Maternity Safety Training Catalogue Introduction In November 2015, the Secretary of State for Health set out the Government’s ambition to reduce the number of stillbirths, neonatal deaths, maternal deaths and brain injuries that occur during or soon after birth by 20% by 2020 and by 50% by 2030. To meet this aim, HEE have made available £8m of funding to be distributed to the 136 Trusts throughout England, to fund packages of multi-disciplinary training, focussing on leadership, multiprofessional team working, as well as midwifery and obstetric skills. develop an appropriate bid, incorporating a range of appropriate training from the different headings: Leadership, Fetal Growth, Fetal Monitoring, Teamworking and Communication, Teamworking and Skills and Drills, Skills and Drills, Cultural Capabilities, and other training/ courses. This catalogue should assist your maternity unit in selecting the most appropriate training courses to successfully complete the Application Form to bid for funds for Maternity Safety Training, and to meet the criteria for applying. It aims to guide units to select the most suitable training; however it is not comprehensive. If a local or other national provider offers quality assured training that will better meet the aim of improving safety in your unit – as well as better enabling your unit to meet the principles in the Assessment Criteria – then you are welcome to include this training with justification in your bid. Bids containing additional training will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Utilising research from the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RCOG), in-house research and further information from local teams, HEE have produced this catalogue of quality assured multi-disciplinary training packages that will support maternity services to develop and maintain high standards of teamwork, communication, clinical skills and a culture of safety whilst reducing maternal and fetal harm.
