Chemistry Research Project (Presentations are scheduled for January 17th, 2006 or later) Honors Chemistry, Mr. Rivas The Project • Projects are individual • Project is worth 10% of your overall semester grade. • Project’s material: Summary report, poster, and PowerPoint presentation are due on January 17th, 2004 • Presentations will begin on January 17th. • Your main source of research must be the Internet Components 1. You will conduct research on a chemistry topic agreed upon with the teacher. 2. The results of your research will be summarized in a four-page report (double space). 3. You will prepare a poster showing information related to your research. 4. You will make a 5 minutes presentation covering the summary of your research. 5. A 6-slides (minimum) PowerPoint presentation must be part of your presentation. TOPICS • A list of suggested topics will be provided. • Students will choose the topics on a first come first serve basis. • Topics cannot be duplicated. • Topic of other sciences are acceptable provided that they have a strong chemistry component. The Report • It must be a four-page report typed double space. • Grammar and spelling will be taken into account for the grading. • The text must be your own summary of the research conducted. • Internet material used in your research must be attached to your report. The Poster • All posters must be of the same standard size: 22inx28in in Landscape orientation. Posters in Portrait format are not acceptable. • Poster must contain a balance of text, pictures, drawing, and/or graphics. • Since these poster will be displayed in the school premises, they must be of excellent quality and easy to read. • Artifacts, such as models or samples may be included in the poster. The Presentation • This will be a five-minute presentation of the essence of the research findings. • The student audience must be given the chance to ask questions regarding the topic. • Presenter may used cue cards of his/her poster during the delivery in addition to the Power Point presentation. The PowerPoint Presentation • The presentation must contain a minimum • • • • of six and a maximum of twelve slides. It must contain text and graphics/pictures. Movies, animated gifs, appropriate sounds of music are all acceptable and desirable. First slide must contain the title of the research project, name, period, and date. PowerPoint file must be supplied in a 3 ½ diskette, CD ROM, or memory stick.
