• Gerunds are the base form of a verb + an ‘ing’
ending.
• They function as NOUNS.
Example:
Frolicking is relaxing.
I dislike knitting.

NOTICE: The gerund does NOT have to be the
subject of the sentence; it can also be the object.
Be Careful!
• Make sure the word your identifying as a
gerund isn’t actually a verb! Ask yourself, “Is
the word a THING or an ACTION?”
