BEEF
COW/CALF VACCINATION PROTOCOL
2016
Vaccines are used to prevent disease by exposing the animal to a non-pathogenic form of the virus or
bacteria. Vaccines do not provide 100% protection, but help to lower the chance of picking up infection.
Cow Vaccine
-
Vira-Shield 6 + 5VL (Respiratory and Reproductive Viruses/Bacteria prevention)
o Vaccinate pregnant cows 40-60 days before parturition- 5cc, SQ


Bovine Rhinotracheitis, Bovine Diarrhea Virus, Parainfluenza 3, Respiratory Syncytial Virus
Lepto- Canicola/Grippotyphosa/Hardjo/Icterohaemorrhagiae/Pomona, Campylobacter Fetus
-
Scour Guard 4KC (Enteric Virus prevention for Calves)
o Vaccinate pregnant cows 40-60 days before parturition- 2cc, IM
-
Multimin 90 (Zinc, Selenium, Manganese, Copper supplement for repro health)
o Give dose to cows at time of vaccination.
o Dose: 1cc per 200lbs. Approx. 8-10cc per cow. Give SQ in the neck

Bovine Rota/Coronavirus, Clostridium Perfringens Type C, E-coli
Calf Vaccine
-
At Birth (within 24 hrs)
o Inforce 3- intranasal (Respiratory Virus prevention)
 Give within 24 hrs of birth. Give 1cc in each nostril
o BO-SE (Vitamin E/ Selenium for white muscle disease prevention and immune boost)
 Give within 24 hrs of birth. Give 1cc, SQ in the neck
- 3 Weeks Prior to Weaning
o Pyramid 5 + Presponse (Respiratory Viruses/Bacteria prevention)
 Give 2cc, SQ in the neck (castrate/dehorn)
o Alpha 7 (Clostridium bacteria prevention)
 Give 2cc, SQ in the neck
- At Weaning (booster vaccines)
o Pyramid 5 + Presponse (For Respiratory Viruses/Bacteria)
 Give 2cc, SQ in the neck
o Alpha 7 (Clostridium bacteria prevention)
 Give 2cc, SQ in the neck
Heifer Vaccine
- 45 Days prior to Breeding
o Multimin 90 (Zinc, Selenium, Manganese, Copper supplement for repro health)
 Dose: 1cc per 150lbs. Approx. 6-8cc per heifer. Give SQ in the neck
o Vira-Shield 6 + 5VL (Respiratory and Reproductive Viruses/Bacteria prevention)
 Give 5cc, SQ
Bull Vaccine
- Vira-Shield 6 + 5VL (Respiratory and Reproductive Viruses/Bacteria prevention)
o Vaccinate with pregnant cows 40-60 days before parturition- 5cc, SQ
Deworming
o Cydectin Pour-On, Recommend doing twice annually in spring and fall
The goal of a proper deworming program is to “decrease” the parasitic population among the animals in
the herd. It is desired to keep some susceptible parasites in the herd to compete with undesired parasites
that are resistant to dewormer.
