International Outreach Program - Haiti St. Mary of the Visitation Parish December 2011 History of our Work Our response Post-disaster Accomplishments To Date • $5 million invested in Hospital of Peace since January 2010 • 9 clinical visits by doctors, nurses, engineers, and other healthcare workers • Construction of a supply warehouse (a first in Haiti) • New IT system • Earthquake damage repaired Accomplishments To Date • • • • • • New potable water system being installed New generator installed New equipment sterilizer installed New laundry equipment installed New kitchen facilities Purchase of busses to transport staff to/from tent cities safely Next Steps • Construction of dormitory to facilitate 24/7 coverage and academic instruction • Completion of water system • Opening of Haiti’s first 24/7 emergency department • Installation of a new oxygen system for operating room • Renewed focus on training & education exchange opportunities for Haitian healthcare workers How St Mary’s has Helped • In 2010, as a parish family, we sent a total of $23,023.23 in donations to help with direct aid following the earthquake How St Mary’s has Helped • In 2010, We also sent 2,348 Haiti Health Kits made up of: • 1 washcloth • 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized) • 1 bath-size bar of soap • 1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, no child-size brushes) • Box of adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages How St Mary’s has Helped • Since 2009 Our parish Children’s Ministry and Kids Klub, each, has sponsored children in Haiti thru our parish child sponsorship initiative. • We continued this past year to correspond and financially aid Darby, James and Franceska as we sought to effect these lives directly. How St Mary’s will Help • Our goal is to raise $5,000 during 2011 to provide direct emergency medical assistance and relief. • We are doing this through 1. Individual parishioner donations 2. Proceeds of our Catholic Café 3. Special events and draws. How St Mary’s will Help • "And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water…. I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward." (Matthew 10:42) • In 2012 we hope to raise $10,000 which will be dedicated toward Completion of water system • We are also considering a Young Adults Mission Trip. Prayer for the People of Haiti Loving God, through your Son Jesus, we are joined with the trials and sufferings of all. Be with those who endure the effects of the earthquake in Haiti. Protect those in the path of danger. Open the pathway of evacuations. Help loved ones find one another in the chaos. Provide assistance to those who need help. Ease the fears of all and make your presence known in the stillness of your peace; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen
