If Brutus will vouchsafe that Antony May safely come to him, and be resolved How Caesar hath deserved to lie in death, Mark Antony shall not love Caesar dead So well as Brutus living; but will follow The fortunes and affairs of noble Brutus Thorough the hazards of this untrod state With all true faith. It works for Kobe.” “3 championships and counting…” Advertising Analysis Now that we have talked about ethos, pathos & logos, analyze your piece of advertising. Identify which of the 3 rhetorical appeals are used. Write a one paragraph description, explaining the advertiser’s audience, goals and techniques. Paragraph Analysis This advertisement for Vitamin Water is clearly targeted to basketball fans. More specifically, their use of Kobe Bryant will attract a younger audience. They are attempting to persuade young fans to drink Vitamin Water – probably instead of Gatorade. Their slogan implies that Kobe is successful because he drinks Vitamin Water. If you drink Vitamin Water, you too can win NBA championships. By using such a successful athlete, they are appealing to ethos. Kobe has credibility since he has already won 3 NBA championships. A rookie or an unknown player would not have the same credibility or ethos. There is also an element of logos. Since it works for Kobe, it will work for you too. Logically, anyone would want to be as successful as Kobe, right?
