WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE THE LIFE OF THE FAMOUSE AUCTOR AND HIS TRAGEDY «ROMEO AND JULIET» By Giuseppe Micunco class 2b liceo scientifico THE PERSONAL LIFE OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford Upon Avon a small town in centre England. He was educated at the Grammar school in Stratford where boys were taught Latin and Roman History. When he was 18 Shakespeare he married Anne Hathaway who was eight years old then him. They had 3 children: Susanna, Hamnet and Judith. Hamnet died at the age of seven. He retired to Stratford around 1613, at age 49, where he died three years later. CAREER OF THE AUTHOR Sometime between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men. He wrote 11 tragedies and 16 comedies: the most famous of these are “Hamlet”, “Macbeth”, “King Lear”, “The Tempest” But, doubtless, his most important opera is the tragedy “Romeo and Juliet” ROMEO AND JULIET There are two important families of Verona, the Montagues and Capulets and they are enemies. Romeo, the son of Lord Montague, goes to a masked ball given by Capulet and meet Juliet, their daugther, and they fall in love. Then with the help of Friar Lawrence, they married. Lord Capulet wants Juliet to marry count Paris. Juliet asks the friar for an advice and he suggests she should drink a potion which will give her fake dead for 42 hours while the friar had to inform Romeo about it and Romeo should bring her to Mantova, but the message fails to reach Romeo in time and Romeo, seeing Juliet apparently dead, decides to kill himself with poison near Juliet's body after kissing her. Then Juliet finds Romeo dead, takes his knife and kills herself.
