Review
Following are the important concepts students
should come away from this unit and will be
contained in the comprehensive unit evaluation
test.
As a review, define the vocabulary terms in the
right column and perform the calculations given.
Quiz yourself, or get help on memorizing the items
in the left column.

CR= Cardio-Respiratory
The Cardio (heart) &
Respiratory (lungs;
breathing) endurance are
critical to fitness.
The heart is a four chamber
double pump: (1) moves
blood to the lungs to get
oxygen and expell carbon
dioxide (2) moves
oxygenated blood and other
nutrients to the body. This is
called circulation.
Circulation. See/Know
this Diagram
Heart Sounds ("lub" "dup")
are created by closing heart
valves that operate to
control the flow of blood
between the four chambers.
Blood is an important fluid
that contains many
specialized living cells that
perform a variety of
functions critical to a healthy
body.
Blood is distributed
differently to different body
areas based on need and
activity.
Measuring Blood Pressure is
important as assessment of
heart and circulation health.
The pulse is surge of blood
through the arteries when
the heart pumps.
Heart Disease is the #1

Know the difference between
arteriosclerosis and
atherosclerosis
Measuring the Resting Heart
Rate (RHR) is an ideal
measurement of CR fitness
Target Heart Rate (THR) is
the zone for developing CR
fitness.
A zone has an upper and
lower heart rate
There are two methods to
calculating an individuals
THR ("220-age" & Karvonen)
There are generally
considered five THR zones to
meet specific training goals.
The Borg perception is a
subjective measure of
exertion.
You will be asked to include on
your Unit Evaluation/Test the
formula and variables--showing ALL
work--in performing the two
calculations for:
1. Resting Heart Rate (RHR)
2. Target Heart Rate (THR) using
BOTH formulas
