Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
Text: I Jn. 4:1
Intro
Islam has made headlines in negative ways throughout
the last century, and especially seems to be spreading
rapidly all over the world
It has always been a militant religion, and, thus, violent
There are those that try to tell
us it is really a
“religion of peace”
What is the truth?
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
Intro
Why study this religion of violence and hate? (I Jn. 4:1)
I Jn. 4:1
1. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God,
because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Three books claim direct
revelation from God:
Koran & Book of Mormon have
in common:




The Bible
The Qur’an
The Book of Mormon
Both claimed to be authored by one
man
Let us look at the rise of Islam through history and decide
between God or Allah!
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
Brief Background: Rise of Islam
Muhammad (570 – 632 A.D.)
 Born in Mecca in 570 A.D. to a merchant family.
 Was orphaned, but grew up to become a caravan manager in contact with





Jews & Christians.
Married a rich widow named Khadija (1st wife).
Bothered by class inequalities & rivalries.
Began preaching in Mecca in 610 A.D. Forced to flee to Medina (Yathrib) in
622. Called the Hijra (i.e. “flight”).
Claimed to experience visions and was visited by the angel Gabriel.
Came to believe that he received the final revelations of Allah (God), that
Allah had called him to declare that there is only one god.

Brief Background: Rise of Islam
Conquering of Mecca
 630 A.D.: Muhammad (Age 60) conquers Mecca & declares the Kaaba a
holy shrine.
 He removes the tribal idols, but keeps the Black Stone.
 Muhammad becomes the religious and political leader.
Why was Islam Attractive?
 Equality (He preached a message of no class distinctions despite wealth)
 No intermediaries
 End to vendettas feuds
 Single authority

Spread of Islam
 Muhammad dies in 632 A.D. (Aged 62) at his wife Aisha's home in Medina,

and he was lowered into a hole in the ground, where he remains.
Left no clear successor or heir.
The position of Caliph (Muslim leader) is established (Similar to Catholic
Pope).
Abu Bakr (1st Caliph): close friend/father-in-law, 1st to convert outside of
family.
Sought to protect and spread Islam (Persia Byzantine Empire).
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
Brief Background: Rise of Islam
The 5 Pillars of Islam
 Profession of Faith (Shahada)
 There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is His Prophet
 Prayer (Salat)
 Practiced five times a day, according to a set ritual.
 Almsgiving (Zakat)
 One traditionally donates a portion of one’s income.
 Fasting (Sawm)
 Done during daylight hours in the month of Ramadan (9th month of
Islamic year).
 Pilgrimage (Hajj)
 A pilgrimage to the Kaaba at Mecca is made once during one’s lifetime.

Brief Background: Rise of Islam
Divisions Within Islam
 Shortly after 1st Caliph’s death rival groups begin competing for the






Caliphate
The 4th Caliph (Ali) was assassinated – 661 AD
Ali’s rival (Marwan I) begins the Umayyad dynasty as the new caliph
Capitol is moved from Medina to Damascus
Led to a split in Islam (661 AD)
Sunnis (Supported political succession)
 Believed the caliph (especially first 4) was primarily a leader and any
devout Muslim could serve in the office with the acceptance of the
people.
Shiites (Supported religious succession )
 Believed the caliph was primarily a religious authority and should be
held only by the descendants of Muhammad (or the 4th Caliph, Ali)
Is the Qur’an from God?
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
The Qur’an (Koran)
The Qur’an
 During the life of Muhammad his companions & wives wrote down his




teachings.
After his death these were collected and compiled in an official edition
ordered by the Caliph Othman a little over a decade after his death.
These teachings, called the Qur’an (Koran) are viewed as the holy book
and word of God by Muslims. (Though the final version would take another
70-200 years to complete)
Islam means “submission.”
One who follows Islam is a Muslim, meaning “one who submits.”
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
The Qur’an (Koran)
The Qur’an says the Torah and the Gospels are true and
that Muslims are to adhere to them!
5:68
Say “O People of the Book! ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by
the Law (Torah), the Gospel (Injeel), and all the revelation that has come to you from
your Lord.”
29:46
“And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, but say, “We believe in the revelation
which has come down to us and in that which came down to you Our Allah and your
Allah is one.”
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
The Qur’an (Koran)
The Qur’an, though considered the final authority, is not
the only source of guidance
 Because it wasn’t finished in Muhammad’s lifetime, there were oral




traditions and other sources, such as Muslim and the Hadith.
The Muslim Qur'an and Muslim Hadith counsel its followers to make war on
unbelievers. (“Verse of the Sword” – 9:5: Trumps verses of peace)
Both Muslim holy books (Qur'an and Hadith) contain commands for
Muslims to subjugate the world, militarily.
Muhammad commanded Muslims to spread Islam through Offensive Jihad
(“Holy War”) or conquest of non-Muslim lands.
Muslims are also commanded to take back any land that was formerly
Muslim (Israel).
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
The Qur’an (Koran)
Killing is Welcome in Islam - even of brother Muslims!
Hadith, Volume 4, Book 52, Number 80i, Narrated by Abu
Huraira
“Allah's Apostle said, “Allah welcomes two men with a smile; one of whom kills the other
and both of them enter Paradise. One fights in Allah's Cause and gets killed. Later on
Allah forgives the 'killer who also get martyred (In Allah's Cause).”
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
The Qur’an (Koran)
Contradiction: God never told Christians to kill or to force
conversion!
 Muslims: “I will kill for my belief!”
 Christians: “I will die for my belief.”
 Mt. 5:44; Lk. 6:27, 35: Jesus said to “love your enemies” and do good to
those who hate/persecute you. He didn’t say to kill them!
 Jn. 18:36: Jesus said His kingdom wasn’t of this world or else His disciples
would be fighting!
 II Cor. 10:3-4; Eph. 6:10-18: “We do not war according to the flesh!”
Our battles are spiritual, not fleshly!
 Jn. 8:44; Rev. 21:8: Jesus said Satan is a murderer and those who
murder are of their father the Devil! Murderers will not enter Heaven!
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
The Qur’an (Koran)
Islam doesn't even have an original Qur'an
 The oldest Qur'an dates from around 790 A.D. (in the British Library) –
That's 158 years after Muhammad’s death!
 It was made up supposedly from “memory” and a few scraps found under
his favorite wife’s bed (his child-bride Aisha).
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
The Qur’an (Koran)
Some verses quoted by early sources are not even in
the Qur’an because…
Muhammad's favorite wife (Aisha was 18 when he died)
said this after Muhammad died,
“The verse of the stoning and of suckling an adult ten times were revealed, and they
were (written) on a paper and kept under my bed. When the messenger of Allah
expired and we were preoccupied with his death, a goat entered and ate away the
paper.”
What else wasn’t added because of a Qur’an
eating goat?
The Qur’an can’t even agree with itself, which proves
it was written by man and not God!
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
God or Allah?
It is often asserted that Allah, the God of Islam, is the
same God as the God of the O.T. and the N.T.
 Allah = Arabic word for God
 Moon worship has been practiced in Arabia since 2000 B.C. The crescent
moon is the most common symbol of this pagan moon worship as far back
as 2000 B.C.
 In Mecca, there was a god named Hubal (moon god) who was Lord of the
Kaaba.
 A symbol of the crescent moon is on top of every mosque at the Kaaba
today and the central symbol of Islam atop of every mosque throughout
the world.

 I Kings 18:21: Elijah challenged the people to choose between God or
Baal.

God or Allah?
The Qur’an says God and Allah are one…
3:84
“Say: ‘We believe in God [Allah], and in what has been revealed to us and what was
revealed to Abraham, Ismail; Isaac, Jacob and in the Tribes, and in (the books) given to
Moses, Jesus and the Prophets, from their Lord we make no distinction between one
and another...”
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
God or Allah?
Is God the same as Allah?
 I Kings 18:21: Elijah challenged the people to choose between God or
Baal.
 The Qur’an says God and Allah are one (3:84)
 Paul’s teaching to the Galatians (Gal. 1:6-9):
 Paul teaches that to accept different truths is to accept a different
gospel.
 Scriptures teach that no other true gospel will come (Jude 3).
 Islam rejects the deity of Jesus (Colossians 1:15; 2:9).
 5:72, 116: The Qur’an says Jesus never equated himself with God, for
if He had He wouldn’t be a true prophet of Allah!
 Footnote 722 of 5:72 says Jesus renounced his divinity in Mt. 4:10
when He said, “You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall
you serve.”
 The Scriptures plainly teach Jesus was God in the flesh (Phil. 2:5-8).
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
God or Allah?
Is God the same as Allah?
 Islam says Jesus did not die on the cross (3:54; 4:157)
 4:157 (645) says because He prayed the night before and there is the
promise that God hears the righteous, God would not allow the Jews to
kill Jesus, but it only looked liked He was dead!
Islam has proven to be false because Muhammad claimed
the Gospel is true, and all 4 Gospels testify that
Jesus died and rose from the dead!
In addition to the writers of the 4-Gospels, Josephus,
the Jewish 1st century general and historian affirmed it!
(Antiquities 18.3.3)
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
God or Allah?
6:34, 6:115, 10:64 and 50:28-29 says Allah cannot change
or alter his word (verified Torah & Gospels as true – 5:68)
 Is. 55:11: God said His words would accomplish all that He set out to do.
 Jer. 36:23-32: When King Jehoiakim burned the scroll, God didn’t say,
“Oh well!” He ordered a new scroll written and pronounced judgment on
the king.
Allah allowed a goat to eat his word and thus
alter his words despite his promise to the
contrary!
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
God or Allah?
Islam claims that Allah is the same God who was revealed
in the Bible. . . . then if the Bible and the Qur'an have
differing views of God, then Islam's claim is false!
 Muhammad claimed that Allah confirmed the Torah (Taurat) and Christian
Gospel (Injeel) (2:87, 5:46, 5:68, 29:46 and 43:63).
 So, if the Torah and Gospel are correct, all the errors in the Qur'an make
the Qur'an false!
Allah is a different god as the Galatians’ gospel was a
different gospel!
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
Conclusion
Muslims, through the teaching of the Qur’an and other
sources, deny Jesus as deity!
Mt. 10:32-33
32. "Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father
who is in heaven.
33. "But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
Muslims falsely believe they have “this base” covered
because they show reverence to Jesus as a “great
Prophet” only
Islam Pt. 1: God Or Allah?
Conclusion
I Jn. 2:22-23
22. Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one
who denies the Father and the Son.
23. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the
Father also.
I Jn. 5:12
12. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
In testing the spirits to see if they are from God
(I Jn. 4:1), man today, like Elijah & the Israelites on
Mt. Carmel so long ago (I Kings 18), need to see through
the lies & obey God and serve Him!
