LINKING VERBS
A. Read each sentence below. Circle the
linking verb and underline the predicate
noun or predicate adjective in each.
1. Most of the new flavors tasted delicious.

sentence with a word or words in the
predicate. A predicate noun is a noun
or pronoun that follows a linking verb
and restates the subject of the sentence.
A predicate adjective is an adjective
that follows a linking verb and describes

3. The ice cream was always fresh.
4. Ice cream is a special treat for many people.
5. Some flavors became famous.

B. Read the sentences below carefully. Identify the underlined words as linking

that shows a state of being rather than
an action. It links the subject of a sentence
with a word or words in the predicate.
A predicate noun is a noun or
pronoun that follows a linking verb and
restates the subject of the sentence.
A predicate adjective is an adjective
that follows a linking verb and describes
the subject of the sentence.
LINKING VERBS
A. Read the following sentences. Underline each
linking verb. If a sentence contains a predicate
noun or predicate adjective, circle it.
1. Peppermint is a common herb.
2. Peppermint tea tastes great.
3. My peppermint shampoo smells good on my hair.
4. For years, peppermint has been my favorite plant.
5. Even its name sounds interesting!
