ACTIVITY/OCCASION: Women of the ELCA December Meeting
WHAT WE DID: Played "Name that Tune" and closed with a worship service
WHAT PROMPTED THIS ACTIVITY: Each year I am asked to have the December program.
WHAT WE HOPED TO ACCOMPLISH/WHAT WE ACTUALLY ACCOMPLISHED: I
wanted the program to be "fun," but also wanted to close with a devotional time together.
WHAT RESOURCES WERE DEVELOPED? Questions for three rounds of "Name that
Tune." The first round was to add missing words to Christmas Carols (they had the most trouble
with this round). The second round was to name a tune that I would play. The final round was
"Bid a Note" where I gave them a clue and they bid how few notes they could name it in. I had
them divided into two teams for this and we did not keep score. The numbers on the page are
from a book we have, "Carols Old and New." The worship service is from Creative Worship for
the Lutheran Parish and is copyrighted. I added Scripture to this service but the rest of it is the
copyrighted service (would need permission from Concordia Publishing House, 3558 South
Jefferson Avenue, Saint Louis, Missouri 63118-3968 to use). I had members of the Women of
the ELCA to read the Scripture and to be lector 1 and Lector 2.
WHAT COSTS WERE INVOLVED: copy costs only
SUGGESTIONS FOR OTHERS: Worked well. I would choose easier carols for some of the
ones used in Part 1. Also the last one in "Name that Tune" was one that our choir was working
on and no one but choir members knew it.
