Location & Region The Pacific Ocean is located between the US and the Asian & Australian Continents to the West. The Equator divides the Pacific Ocean into a North & a South Half. Animals & Plants Continued The animals and plants provide of variety of stuff to the marine biome of the ocean. The ocean contains many biotic factors including algae, clown fish etc... these animals & plants are also classified as producers, consumers & decomposers. These animals all have to have a diet. The Unicorn Fish is an Herbivore so it only eats plants. The Frilled Shark is a Carnivore so it only eats meat. A Sea Lion is an Omnivore so it eats both plants and animals but it eats mostly fish. Now moving on to abiotic factors of the marine ocean biome. The abiotic factors that affect the Pacific Ocean marine life include temperature, salinity, sunlight, oxygen, & precipitation. These factors affect the marine organisms The Pacific Ocean Animals Frilled Shark Spotted Eagle Ray Walrus Clown Fish Sea Lion Unicorn Fish The Pacific Ocean Plants Algae Phytoplankton Seagrass Diatoms Kelp Coral Reefs Food Web The Pacific Ocean Climate, Temperature & Precipitation Marine Plants Continued… The climate of the Pacific Ocean is between 29.5˚F~86˚F obviously this where the Northern & Southern parts are going to vary depending on how close they are to the dividing line called the equator. The average temperature of the Pacific is 86˚F. It can also vary in regions because towards the poles the average temperature is 2˚ below zero. The average precipitation of the Pacific Ocean is roughly 50 inches of rain per year. Plants we found out a little bit about in the biome of the Pacific Ocean is seagrass, & coral reefs. We will now be expanding our knowledge on one of those plants. Seagrass is what we will expand on. Seagrass had made an adaptation to survive by living in between coral reefs, then the seagrass transfers nutrients over to the coral reef. The seagrasses roots are adapted to keep the plant in place during strong ocean currents. After the seagrass dies it helps with new plant growth. As you can see this adaptation is an example of a symbiotic relationship. Animals Continued… Animals we found out a little about in the biome of the Pacific Ocean were sea lions. We are going to expand our information a little further on these wonderful & cute animals. One of the adaptations of the Sea Lion is its diving capability. The diving allows the Seal Lion time to escape from predators but also catch their prey. Fun Facts… The Pacific Ocean is home to 75% of the worlds volcanoes The Pacific Ocean is actually shrinking by 1 inch each year There are 6 endangered species that live in the Pacific Ocean In 2014 some of the underwater volcanoes were seen erupting from the air in the Pacific Symbiotic…Relationships The marine biome is shrinking even through this there is growth. Whether that be in the growth of a habitat or there being more competition is a niche, or the population of scavengers going up. Here are some examples of symbiotic relationships in the ocean clown fish and anemone is mutualism because the clown fish is protected by the poisonous anemone get nutrients back into its roots because of the clown fish.
